Over 17m iOS and Android Devices Activated on Christmas Day

According to Flurry Analytics, more than 17 million iOS and Android devices were activated on Christmas Day, a huge number, which is 2.5 times more than the number for Christmas 2011.

New Device Activations

The figure is a massive 330% increase on the average daily number of December activations, where an average of 4 million iOS and Android products were activated.

Smartphones v Tablets Activations

The most popular devices were Tablet products, with 51% of all iOS and Android activations being Tablets. This almost even split between smartphones and Tablets compares to an activation ratio of approximately 4:1 in favour of smartphones from the 1st - 20th of December.

App Downloads

Unsurprisingly, after unwrapping the new devices on Christmas Day, most headed to the Apple App Store and Google Play Store to download apps. App downloads increased by 112% on the 25th, up to 328 million from an average of 155 million during the first 20 days of the month. The peak for app downloads was at approximately 8:30 in the evening, when app downloads hit 12 million.

Apps by Hour Download

Flurry Analytics base their stats on monitoring 250,000 apps, which gives them access to data that includes around 90 percent of all activated devices.
